The Executive Board defines IFB scientific policy and implements it. It comprises the IFB (and IFB-core) director, the six representatives of the regional centers, the director of the high-performance French computing facility that hosts the national IT infrastructure (IDRIS), and the director of the national sequencing infrastructure (France Génomique) in which IFB platforms are also involved. The tasks of the Executive Board includes:
- In practice, setting up the infrastructure.
- Ensuring the coordination and structuring of platform activities.
- Defining and overseeing the infrastructure recruitment policy, in particular, the recruitment of engineers dedicated to the evaluation of technologies and the development or improvement of services. These engineers are hosted by regional PFs or by IFB-core.
- Planning and monitoring technological development
The Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) is composed of international bioinformatics experts. The SAB is convened once a year by the IFB director to evaluate the technological and scientific orientations of the infrastructure. The IFB director proposes the SAB meeting agenda for approval to the Supervisory Board. The SAB submits its conclusions and issues recommendations to the Supervisory Board.
The User Community Advisory Board plays a key role in expressing the needs and priorities of the life science community in terms of infrastructure for biological information and support. It consists of representatives of other national infrastructures that produce “omics” data and of the ALLENVI and AVIESAN Alliances.
IFB will launch calls for proposals to develop innovative services. The submitted proposals will be evaluated by a panel of independent bioinformatics experts. The evaluation process will be the same one used for international bioinformatics conferences. Members of IFB will act as “associate editors” and choose reviewers to evaluate the submitted proposals. They will study and summarize the reviewers’ views and present them to the Executive Board.
If needed, IFB will set up an Ethics Committee.
