Work context

The French Institute of Bioinformatics (IFB; france-bioinformatique.fr) is a national biology-health infrastructure (INBS) that federates 36 regional bioinformatics platforms and teams and a coordinating unit, IFB-core (Research Support Unit, UAR CNRS 3601). IFB is also the French node of the European Bioinformatics Research Infrastructure ELIXIR (ESFRI). IFB's mission is to support research in life sciences by deploying a digital infrastructure, software resources, bioinformatics services and training by anticipating future developments in the field and participating in methodological innovations. The activities of IFB cover the diversity of the thematic fields of all its supervisory bodies: fundamental research, health, environment and agronomy

IFB is involved in several large-scale national application projects in various fields of Life Sciences and Health, including the ABRomics project, which aims to develop a secure intersectoral One Health digital platform to make (meta)genomic data on bacterial infectious diseases and their associated clinical and epidemiological metadata accessible to a meta-network of researchers from 44 teams, including epidemiologists, clinical microbiologists, bioinformaticians, mathematicians, and the research community at large. (https://www.france-bioinformatique.fr/actualites/abromics-une-plateforme-numerique-sur-la-resistance-antimicrobienne-pour-stocker-integrer-analyser-et-partager-des-donnees-multi-omiques/).

IFB offers a distributed computing infrastructure for data processing (NNCR: National Network of Computational Resources), which is based on an HPC (High Performance Computing) infrastructure made up of a federation of clusters shared by several IFB FPs (platforms) and supported by a central resource, IFB Core Cluster, hosted at the IDRIS (Institute for Development and Resources in Scientific Computing) The person recruited will integrate the IFB Core Cluster team, a transversal team of about ten regional PFs from the entire IFB FP network, each of which devotes part of its activity to maintaining the national distributed infrastructure. All installations are based on jointly established procedures (ANSIBLE recipes, continuous integration, conda packages, Unix modules, etc.) which allow the same software environment to be deployed on each of the federation's clusters.
In this context, we are recruiting an engineer whose main mission will be the design, deployment and management of the HPC and cloud infrastructure on which ABRomics software components will be based. He/she will also design solutions adapted to the analysis of sensitive data based on containerization and virtualization technologies.

Additional information

The person will be integrated into his/her host team, and will participate, on site and in telecommuting, in IFB and ABRomics project working groups relevant to his/her mission. The work will require occasional travel in France and abroad to participate in meetings, trainings or scientific events. She will also participate for 20% of her time in the activities of the platform that hosts her.
